Bio

Isabella Matute, from Miami, FL, is a BFA graduate (2020) from the Kansas City Art Institute (KCAI) where she majored in Photography. She studied at Miami Dade College (MDC) in Art Education for two years before
her transfer to KCAI. As a Hispanic-American, Isabella has found the change in scenery, culture, and terrain to be disparate. Isabella seeks to immerse herself in the Kansas City community. Isabella’s artistic interests lie in themes relating to identity, femininity, and body politics. Much of her work is created in a cause and effect reaction to events in pop culture and polity. As well, she pulls from her own experience when producing imagery. Isabella commonly works in the photographic realm and consistently engages in the act of performance. The use of theatrical lighting and performative gestures in Isabella’s images highlight her feelings of self-fragmentation and general displacement.
